My dad emailed me this link to an article about arsenic in eggs from backyard chickens.

My chickens just started laying eggs this week. Should I be worried? Has anyone ever dealt with arsenic in feed and then in eggs?

Thanks for any info!!!

Pay attention to where your feed comes from. If your are buying feed from a low end corporate source rather than a local one, your risk goes up. Those low end feed people are using the cheapest ingredients they possibly can no matter the source and they are NOT testing any of it.

While I am not a Purina fan, I have to say they risk way too much to allow toxins into their feeds so they'd be safe. The same way a smaller local place would be safer. I buy my feed from a complany that uses only grains grown in their area. yea the feed composition varies through the year, but its always healthy.

If you want healthy happy toxin free birds then take the time to feed them right.

Actually, I think it was a badly written article. It suggests that the arsenic from commercial feed ends up in eggs, but the testing was on meat birds for levels of arsenic in the meat, supposedly from medicated feed. Very confusing for people. I'm not impressed by the info...
