I've been doing a lot of reading trying to prepare for my first fall/winter season - has anyone used a motion detector light inside the coop instead of a timer? Has it worked?
Thanks so much for all your help!!,

This will be our first winter with chickens, as well. I have not read anything about using a motion sensor. To me, it sounds like it wouldn't work because I would think they would need the constant light. I plan on getting a timer & setting it for 5:00am - 9:00am & then from 4:00pm - 9:00pm. From what I'm reading they will need 16 hours of daylight, same as they would get in summertime.

I was also looking into a timer, but I was hoping to use solar lights as my coop is quite far from my home, so electricity is a problem. :(
I don't want them to have CONSTANT light, so I thought maybe a motion detector would work? Maybe?
