I am new to this site and I need some help. I have 5 ducks in a 25 x 16 foot outside enclosure. They have destroyed all the grass and I am looking for anyone who may have used artificial turf to control the "mud pit" duck pen. If anyone can recommend a solution, I would really appreciate it.

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy you've decided to join us :ya

Folks have found lots of different solutions, but not one has used artificial turf. Their bills are little drilling machines. Some folks have put sand over gravel, others use deep litter method. I've linked a couple of searches for you. The advantage and disadvantage of BYC is the vast amount of information here. Not sure how you're setup, but the cleanest I've kept mine was moving every few days to new grass. It can take up to six weeks before they can visit the first spot.

Thanks for the information. Their run is 24'x16' with a coop and a 300 gallon stock tank for a pond. It's completely enclosed with timbers and chicken wire with a mesh top for shade and to keep out predators. I read someone else's post about using aritificial turf with areas of flat field stone to allow access to mud. Any input?
