You could always scan 'The Magi' and then digitally add colour so that your can see which colours works best before adding colour to the original?

I do it sometimes. I will post an example for you, and I might as well enter it in the contest while I am at it, so look out for my next post in this thread...

This painting is based on a photo of my beloved Raven soaking up the sun with her black feathers. I had a lot of fun adding the distinctive details of her feathery face and spotted orange eyes.

Oh boy! I just read the rules
My mother just painted this for me when I got rid of my rooster, majesty.
I thought it said artwork of your flock. I was wondering why people had some other interesting flock members.
I’ll let myself out.
