Okay I’m new here and I’m new to hatching. I hatching Coturnix quail eggs and one of them pipped and didn’t move for a day and a half. The membrane was SUPER tough. I zipped around the egg with blunt tweezers in a VERY steamy bathroom. I keep wetting the memebrane and peeling off tiny bits of the shell. I can now see most of the chick and there is a HUGE red coiled vein under the membrane. I’ve been letting it sit to see if it will dry up but it isn’t? The chick is 2 days over due, all other chicks hatched already. WHAT SHOULD I DO? Please don’t tell me to let nature take its course haha not my style.

Until it has absorbed the blood from that vein it is not ready to hatch. Use some coconut oil or olive oil (any food safe oil) on the membrane to keep it soft and supple. Water will dry it out more. Pop it back in the incubator - as long as it can breathe it will be OK. Just keep checking on it.

:fl for your little one. I love Coturnix chicks - they are so sweet.
