Had a hen suddenly show symptoms of ascites tonight. Waddling, gasping breath, massively swollen abdomen. I drained her abdomen and I feel like the fluid is pretty dark but im not sure if indicates infection. Weve had horrible heat here lately so im assuming that's why the symptoms appeared so suddenly as she'd have been drinking way more water.

A greenish fluid can indicate liver disease while a deep orange/yellow can be heart failure.

She does need to be drinking plenty of fluids to help flush the body, don't limit water intake.

Hopefully the draining brought her some temporary relief.

You can also try Aloe Detox to see if this helps improve her quality of life as well.
