What a wonderful morning. The Post Office called at 6am and the 6YO son was ready, we loaded up in the truck and eased over to the other side of town in the predawn traffic. They were probably as excited there as we were, had the babies next to the dispatch desk and a crowd for the opening.
Only one DOA. I think the Postal lady was more upset than I.
Got them home and into the brooder. 3YO baby girl comes downstairs shrieking 'I want to see the Chickens!' Admired them all for an hour, then off to work.
Two more casualties during the day, then we started really watching them. Crested chicks are really beautiful.
One, we think a silver polish was just crazy, kept pecking eyes, body slamming the other chicks and finally had to go out in the quail pen. Don't know what was wrong with that one.
So far, all we can tell is that we've got a lot of crested, six are identical and might be white or buff polish. Two white crested black. Who knows for the rest. Sweet day.
