New to raising chickens and they'll be 17 weeks tomorrow. Yesterday we found our first egg. I'm not sure which one laid it but I'm thinking it was one of our black hens (presumed to be Asia Blacks). I can't find much information about them since they're a newer breed. Why color eggs do they lay?

The egg was a light brown and our flock consists of presumed to be Asia Blacks, Buff Orpingtons, and Welsummers. The black hens are the only ones that look even close to laying, besides on the the Orpingtons.

They lay brown eggs. Can I see pictures of them?
It may look a little darker than it actually is in the pictures due to poor lighting and it being wet from being washed off.

That's my thought. That picture was taken yesterday. All of the black ones are starting to squat but she has the biggest/reddest comb by far. However, she's not the one I caught checking out the nesting box yesterday so not sure if it was her or not but if not I suspect she'll be laying any day now
