I have a real problem with my hens getting attacked by ravens and foxes. Even the occasional bald eagle trys to kill them. I only free range my birds because I hate locking them up. I was thinking maybe if I get a mean rooster it will defend them. Maybe an asil or white hackle. Can I get these breeds in the states? I heard they were illegal? Why?

I suggest making a large run for your birds. I personally know nothing of that breed. Good luck!

A rooster will not stop a predator. Yes, they may sound the alarm but chickens are prey animals. If not protected by a predator proof facility they will get eaten. You can improve chances of survival by providing areas where they can hide when a predator arrives. However, those will only work for flying predator. The four-legged predator requires strong fence and electric wire. If you truly want to protect your flock you will need to build a predator proof pen for them.
