I feel ya! I'd rather get bit by a mosquito than a fire ant! Those things leave welts. They also like to wait until a few of their buddies are in position so they can all bite you at the same time.

I do love spring in Texas. If you do any driving around, you'll see a nice variety of wildflowers along most roadways. A lot of Bluebonnets, of course.
