Ask Lacy Duckwing Anything!

This might be surprising, but there's a lot of us in Maine who don't eat lobster, and many who have tried it, don't like it. We are known for it, and there's many stores who sell them live (including my feed store), but it's not a staple in many of our diets.
Oh wow that actually is really surprising hahah

Yeah. Sometimes I find it surprising on the opposite end, lol. Well, if you want to know something else surprising (because people also think of this when they think of Maine), is I've never seen a puffin before either.

Oh! Yeah, many people think of puffins when they think of Maine. Now that I think of it though, it has been awhile since someone has asked me if I've ever seen one.
I have seen moose and black bears. There's not as many moose around as there used to be, but once, many years ago in less than two hours, I saw over 20 moose. This year, I've only saw one so far, and that one was when I was out on a four wheeler and it was standing in the middle of the trail while I was on my way home.
On black bear, I've only saw a cub, but that doesn't mean I haven't been closer to the ones I didn't see. At least once, while I was out in the middle of nowhere, one was between me and my car, and I know this because only a black bear smells like a dumpster when there isn't one in a hundred miles. Then there's been plenty of camping trips that they were sniffing around my tent at night.

I didn't think of Bigfoot, lol. I am pretty positive it was a bear though. There are a lot of bears in the area and many people hunt them there. It was probably smelling like a dumpster because it was most likely being baited nearby. And who knows, it might have come out thinking I was out baiting and delivering some fresh food.

LOL I think of weird things 🤣😭🙈 I’m sure it was probably a bear though!!!!!

I’d be terrified LOL
Thankfully, even though some of the places I've been look scary, there's really nothing here to be scared of. We don't even have venomous snakes here. I think besides the usual things to be scared of (like ticks), the most scary thing is the leaches (which we call "blood suckers"). Down Southern and Central Maine, they're not really a concern, but you go North, they turn into one real quick. In some of the lakes I camp at, they can get up to a few inches long (big enough for you to make out the little orange spots on their backs), and will chase you to shore. In some spots, they'll cover the bottom of your boat so much that the bottom of your boat will be black.
On those things, I can typically tell where they're going to be and where they're not (some will come up to the shoreline and wait for you to come in if they smell you near), so I haven't had one on me for years. One time though, when I was a kid, one completely wrapped itself around my wrist like a black bracelet, lol.
