Hello, so I am asking for a friend since they do not have a Backyard Chickens account, one of their hens hasn't been acting or looking normal I think. Her symptoms are fluids down her front, poop on her back, puffed up and somewhat lethargic. Her breathing has sometimes sounded like an old man snoring. It has been cold there, so maybe that has something to do with it? They gave her a bath and separated her from the other chickens. Any help would be appreciated!

Age, laying, last egg, breed, normal feed routine including treats and supplements, currently eating or drinking?

First things first.. water down the front may be a crop issue..

What do droppings look like?

Hope they get answers and she recovers quickly! :fl

ETA: how long with respiratory symptoms? Any recent additions or changes?

Eating and drinking might actually rule out crop concern.

Sneezing and the respiratory distress sound like it may have came from another home if it wasn't activated by the move. Maybe also the "mutt" designation since that doesn't often come from hatcheries. Some flock can harbor things without their keeper realizing it. Are y'all in the US?

Things I would look into are.. infectious bronchitis, Mycoplasma Gallisepticum, (chronic respiratory disease)..

Is she still foraging and hanging out with her flock or is she self isolating at all, going up to roost at night? Are you able to post a photo of her so we can see what puffed up looks like?

Calling in a couple recruits that may have more knowledge about this than I do, other links, or more recruits to call on.. @Eggcessive @Wyorp Rock .. TIA!

It sounds like a chronic respiratory disease. Depending on symptoms you may want to treat with antibiotics, such as Tylosin, doxycycline, or oxytetracycline. Viruses or fungal diseases will not respond to antibiotics. It sounds like this has been going on for a long time, so you may want to try antibiotics or cull her. If you cull, get a necrospy to find out what disease you are dealing with.
