What about iCarly? The girls are adolescents and I was going to suggest Spencer for young adult, but I googled and he is supposed to be 28 so I don't think he will work.

Ok, I reread the assignment and it says I can use a tv, movie, or literary character. So, hmmm. Literary, I could use Jo from Little Women, Percy Jackson from Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightening Thief, or shoot, even Bella from the Twilight series! For movies, I could use Alex from The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, or a whole host of other characters. My mind is working hard now since I watch way more movies and read more books than I watch tv. Just have to find good examples. Just cause they're in a movie doesn't mean they fit the example, know what I mean?

GLEE is a new show about high school kids. I don't watch it but I know that much and they have the best theme song ever.

Old show, but excellent example is The Wonder Years. Other examples that show kids and young adults in both stages are Eight is Enough and 7th Heaven.

I think for the Stage 5, Freddy on iCarly would be good. He is struggling to define himself as independent from a scary helicopter mom. Or Sam trying to date, and changing her behavior to fit what she thinks the boy wants.....

My kids watch a lot of iCarly.

Other examples:

Lucy/Edmund/Eustace/Caspian in the Narnia books with issues relating to who and what they are loyal to

Emma in Jane Austen's classic dealing with friends and love (older, but delayed adolescence)

Meg in A Wrinkle in Time

Anne in Anne of Green Gables in any number of situations

Harry learning he is a wizard and finding out what that means to him, all the kids in HP moving into dating, etc.

Just about any kids book deals with these sorts of issues.
