Aspirin causing seizures?

Has anyone had an experience with low dose aspirin causing seizures in a chicken? I have an injured chicken, several people suggested giving 1/2 a low dose aspirin tablet. She started having seizures after wards. I almost put her down thinking it was due to her injuries. I stopped giving her the aspirin to see if that was the cause and the seizures have stopped. Anyone have any experience with this?

Aspirin can cause bleeding, and since your hen suffered injury to her head, that might be the reason, but she also may be having seizures due to brain inflammation. Anyway, I would not use it anymore.

Thank you very much for you help!!! We realized tonight that our little friend was far to sick for us to cure on our own. A year ago if someone told me I would be spending the evening in the chicken emergency room I would have thought they were on drugs! But, After 3 hrs(hopefully going home soon!) and about $200. Later at Tufts small animal ER. Roberta is likely to make a full recovery minus 1 eye which she will probably have to have removed next week. We have elected not to have a chicken CT scan done. It would provide information, but is expensive and we cannot afford any brain surgery that the scan may uncover. So we will be taking her home with eye drops , antibiotics, liquid food to syringe feed her and will have our fingers crossed!

Yes, you can really become attached to those little chickens. I'm glad that you were able to get her vet care today. I hope she recovers and leads a long life. Please give us an update later.

The vet told us that chickens can have reactions like that to Aspirin. They are not particularly common but they do happen from time to time. Just an FYI for anyone who may need this info. They prescribed Meloxicam as an alternative and because of her reaction to the Aspirin they gave her a lower dose than they normally prescribe.

She best live a long life, her per Lb price is now $52.25!! But she sings to me every day and with the song birds anytime they sing.. She is a lovely little bird. My partner says she better start laying the golden eggs, lol!
