Aspiring chookie mum

Hi, I'm Karen and I'm Aussie (hence "chook" not "chicken"). Have been thinking about getting chooks for a couple of years, to help with pest control in our orchard. Decided to dip our toes in with an internet kit coop. Even as we started to put it together, we're saying "this won't hold 6 chooks", and at the end "this might make an OK mother hen pen, or chicken hospital, that's all." So rolled up our sleeves and went all out with a Chookie McMansion. The husbana fell in love with Carolina Coops and wanted something in that style. I drew up some extensive plans, which he totally ignored and made it up as he went along. We're nearly done, and looking forward to getting our first girls by the end of the month. Probably a couple each of Isa Browns and black Australorps, but husbana already contemplating heritage breeds down the track. Here's the weird thing - I actually have a bird phobia!
