I have a problem with my chicken was wondering if you could offer some input. We had a rooster join our flock of hens he came from a neighbors yard ( the others kicked him out) he's a nice rooster but my oldest hen which is a Buff Orpington has started ganging up on other random hens with him and pulling their feathers they would both attack this hen and pull their feathers I lost one hen because I didn't realize this is what was happening soon enough. I have taken the Buff & Rooster and placed them in a separate coop/pen . Should I just get rid of the rooster ?

I'm sorry to hear that.

It might be best to get rid of the rooster. What age are the bullied hens? When did the rooster arrive?

I hope I can help.

The rooster is almost 1year-old the hen that's ganging up with him on the others is older than him she's a little over year and the other ones are about one month younger than her so they were all together when they were purchased

My hands were probably about five months old when he started coming around and checking them out my neighbor had five other roosters and they kicked him out of their flock so then my hens basically accepted him into their flock and everything was fine until this year and I've noticed more of him jumping on them which I understand is normal but now my buff has become aggressive with him

It depends on which ones are your favorites. Getting rid of the rooster could solve the problem, but so could getting rid of the aggressive hen. You could try keeping the aggressive hen separated from them a few days and then re-introducing her, so she doesn't feel so bossy. Or you could try this with the rooster, or both.

I did put the hen with the rooster in a separate pen and coop I did that last night my hen also attacked my little dog which has always been in there with me my dog always goes in the pan with me in the chickens have always been fine with her and then last night this hen that's been getting aggressive attacked her

I think I'm going to try getting rid of the rooster first and see if that helps solve the problem I never wanted one to begin with but we kind of felt sorry for him

OK now the hen that was helping the rooster beat on the other hens was acting like a rooster she was pinning one of the other hens to the ground and she also tried to attack my little dog which none of my hens ever bother her she walks in the pen with me all the time so I have separated her again she has an egg that she's laid inside the coop and normally when I put her in that coop she lays in the egg box any suggestions on what I should do other than keeping her separated should I let her hatch an egg and keep her in there for the duration or should I just get rid of her ?
