Assisted hatch baby chick not well

Hey there,

I have a few hour old baby chick with a splayed? Leg and red umbilical. It was an assisted hatch so we knew something may be wrong but…

Treatment ideas?

@Dkm4444 I hope your chick’s doing better. Sometimes, they may take a little while to get their balance. There was an obvious reason you had to assist, and that could be a leg issue. I hope it’s ultimately not splay leg, but @GodLovesU linked you to a helpful article.

You can gently clean the umbilical site, then apply a little triple antibiotic (without pain relief), if it’s still red tonight.
