Hi all,

My first goose egg that got to hatching pipped yesterday (unexpected, we miscalculated by a week) and I've been rabidly googling and trying to find out how to properly handle it. It's been about 27 hours now since it pipped and there hasn't been much progress, but the little fella is making a lot of noise at the moment.

I'm a little confused as to what I should do to assist, many articles say I shouldn't even open the incubator because the membrane might dry up, while others say I should candle the egg and/or make holes and peel off the egg shell if it takes longer than 24 hours.

At this point, is it safe for me to open the incubator and peel off some of the shell or is it best just not to touch the egg at all and see what happens?

Went ahead and helped peeling a bit before bed last night, by morning he was out entirely 😁
