At what age and weight does a Coturnix get the tag Jumbo?

Though I am new to this, I've noticed that it comes down to my breeding stock. My originals all came from the same place and i don't think they were fed right cause all are on the smaller side. My main Roo in the breeder pen is only 7oz but depending on who my chicks Mamas were the size will vary. Going back to my hatching where I only had 2 survive, the Italian hen is roughly 11oz as where the Rosetta Tuxedo roo is only 7 soaking wet. So does that mean one is jumbo and other isn't? Is the standard being set on weight alone or what parents are?

Thank you JJ. I will assign myself to do more research for this. Wonder what wikipedia sais...Hadn't even looked there. Funny, I google it, and our very thread comes up quoting us on google right now. So searching becomes somewhat of a chasing your tail thing if you don't know where to look.

I appreciate it.

I had also stated I would find that info on the non turning of eggs for first three days of hatch. I have some work to do before I raise my hand again...

I start weighing birds at 7 weeks. If they are 12 ounces + they go in one pen, I give the others an extra chance for a week, 8 weeks I weigh again, if the birds are less than 12 ounces they are considered pharaoh and if more, Jumbo. Just what I do.

No that isn't where I saw it JJ. I did some more searching, because I was worried at the time and hadn't been turning. I will endeavor to find that darned study! Sorry. Between putting "little" to bed and lego clean up...I get these adult interest done.

I'll be back with it (and other stuff I find hopeflly on the weight and title issue). I promise.

I tend not to trust those kinds of "here you can do this in your sleep" sites with regard to animals. Been trained tooo long in school and the school of hard knocks. I run the other way.
