At what age can keets withstand winter temps?

I think my best bet is to just start buying lower wattage bulbs.


Yes, this is what I do. I usually start my chicks/keets with a 100 watt bulb, about 8-10" above the bedding (based on their body language). Then I raise it until I can't raise it anymore. Then I reduce the wattage to 75, then 60, and then 40 watts. Then they move outside. ;)

I wait at least a week between warmth changes. Pay attention to their body language, if most or all of them are huddled together directly beneath the lamp then it's too cool; lower it a little or increase the wattage of the bulb.
 
I once had the lamp too low and all my gunieas chicks were laid out it looked like the boneless chicken ranch!
