At what age did your silkie start laying eggs?

I thought that silkies lay later than other breeds. I have had my silkie living in the brooder with babies for months. She was making the noise that hens make when they lay. I thought that it could not be possible. She is just 5 months and she laid her first egg today. I was beyond excited!!She brooded all those babies at about 3 months old. I am thinking maybe it made her broody hormones kick in. That is all I can think. Whatever happened, I am so happy!!

Mine laid early too. They were born in March of last year and one hatched her own babies in September! Then, this month, one of her babies hatched 5 babies of her own, so I have a one year old grandmother... I need to get these birds on Maury Povich, have some sense talked into them, lol.
