Hi everyone! I'm new to raising chickens. I have 6 6 week old chicks. 2 Rhode Island Red, 2 black sex link, and 2 arucanas. I was wondering at what age your chickies were before you realized you had a roo. One of my Rhode Island reds (aka Fluffy) is quite larger than the rest but I honestly believe it's because she's a pig. Any info or tips you could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :D

Well, the good news is the sex links are obvious...so no wondering there. As for the other breeds you have, it really depends on the breed and the individual birds - some show their gender loud and proud early on and others can be late bloomers. Six weeks is the outside edge of that good window to be able to start getting an idea, so I would take some photos of your birds and post them so we can take a look and offer our input and the reasons behind our answer, which will help you start to see/understand what to look for.

Thanks! I'll try and get a pic of them. I'm not sure if they like me yet so getting them to not run when I go near them is a challenge.

It's not the best pic but she wouldn't stay still long enough for me to get a decent one.
