At what age will a chick put itself to bed?

I have guineas and chicks 4 weeks and 8 weeks old together in a cage in the coop. Soon I will be needing that space for babies born the 12th of this month. I think the 8 week olds will put themselves to bed but will 4 week olds follow their example?

By putting themselves to bed, I mean if I let them come and go from the cage, forage like the adults, will they come back into the coop to bed down?

In my experience chicks quickly learn where "home" is and will go back to their coop at night after free ranging. Keep an eye on them when roost time comes and be prepared to round up the inevitable stray for the first night or two though.

At first they will need to be picked up and put inside the coop but within a day to a week will learn to go in themselves. Hope this helps

Thanks, I only let 3 of them out today. They shouldn't be too hard to locate considering there's about 20 chicks/keets in the cage that have to wait their turn. LOL
