At what point does it become abuse?

Thank you all for caring. This is the fourth flock I have watched these people "raise" in the past nine years. Last weekend I forcefully suggested that they stop raising chickens, period. Discussion to be resumed next weekend. I'll let you know.

Hello, Judy, and welcome to BYC. We need more information to offer help. Realistically there is a fine line between ignorance and abuse.

Most immediately: I need to know how to care for these two remaining chickens, one with a broken wing. Realistically, what does their future look like? I am not too interested in defining "a fine line between ignorance and abuse." I am not looking to prove anything. I just want them to stop trying to raise chickens.

Kinda depends on how bad the injury is. This could be something like trying to sling the wing so it heals, to euthanizing the bird if the wing is not salvageable or badly infected.

As for approaching them, I would suggest just being blunt with them - their treatment is killing these birds and this is morally wrong what they are doing. If you are able to take on these birds, maybe extend that offer? If not, offer to aid with the rehoming process?

Have you tried ralking to them about their chickens? Maybe they're unsure themself. Direct them here and we can teach them how to care for their chickens properly. What @Battlepants said is also helpful

What is their setup like? What do they feed?
