Attaching hardware cloth to the run frame?

that would be the best way. use hand driven pultry type staples or narrow crown staples driven by an air tool. you could also use zip ties but i don't care much for that method.
 
You can use hammer-in staples, the strength of which depends on how many you use, how good your wood is, and what size staples (you don't want to fracture the wood apart with too many too-large staples, though).

Or you can screw thru fender washers.

Or you can screw thru a 1x4 (or whatever) wood batten, or metal equivalent if that's what you've got.

We used wood lathe screws from Home Depot. Basically they are normal wood screws with very wide heads (to hold the hardware cloth down) like built on attached washers. Cost about 5.00 bucks for a box of a few hundred.
