Attaching Hardware Cloth

Oy vey! I am guessing that after we use the stapler then we will add screws and fender washers later. I didn't realize how much FUN this is going to be

Hello,
Although, I am new to this site, I have been using it as a great information source. I just put all new Hardware cloth in my chicken coop/barn/stall, I thought I would share with everyone the tool I used to cut the hardware cloth like BUTTER. I used the Air Nibbler
Best $25.00 I ever spent at Harbor Freight. It is an air tool and even if you don't have a compressor it would be worth getting a small one. The tool only requires 90 psi and let me tell you it worked better than perfect.

First off, I wish I had your battery operated stapler! I used 18gauge 1 1/4" long staples from Harbor Freight. Mine is an air stapler and the compressor was set at 90psi. I couldn't pull them out after they were driven in, so I doubt a raccoon could either. I placed staples every 6" or so. You could/should go back over the edges with a 1x2 strip of wood and then screw that down too, just for extra peace of mind.

I haven't done my run but secured hc over my windows and vent areas. ended up using 1 1/4 roof tacking nails with the metal rings on them, they were so easy to hammer in and are really strong! The staple gun killed my hands when I was using it on my other project, and wasn't nearly secure enough as a dog tore them right out but then again I just had a plain old hand staple gun, nothing fancy.

Lath screws work great - they have a washer and do not require a pre-drilled hole. I use screws for everything - easier if anything every needs replacing or changed up. In addition I used 1/2 inch staples - a little paranoid about critters getting to my chickens.

I use 8x1 1/4 deck screws with fender washers from the box store , you can take them out and you can angle the screw to stretch the hdwe cloth.
