Attacked by 5 week old RIR roo - OMG he is SO gone!

At first I thought it must have been an accident - little RIR roo pinching my the skin on my hand hard enough for me to yelp as I put in the food dish in their pen the other morning.

That same day, my hand got humped and "mated".

Again the next day - twice.

And today the little rotten roo attacked my hand hard enough to draw a drop of blood - did I mention he's not even 6 weeks old yet?!

I smacked him off - this is ridiculous!

I've asked 3 chicken people and nobody wants him - what the heck am I supposed to do with him until he's gone? I'm putting a "free to a good soup pot" ad online tomorrow, I mean this is ridiculous - there's testosterone and there's dangerous rambo!

I remember this RIR roster attack me. I through my sandle at him and ran outside the cage. He did'nt want to let me get OUT!!!

It was not funny.

I hope I can give him away to someone that can manage him...

Grab him when you can, like when he's on the roost at dusk, and hold him upside down by his legs until he quits struggling. Then, take a walk around your yard, swinging him gently beside you upside down. Make sure he isn't struggling. Lay him down on the ground on his back, gently hold him there for a second or two, then let him go and take a step back. He'll get up dizzy and with more respect for you.

From then on, never let him eat when you're present. Make sure he knows you're boss. Don't be nice to him and try to make him like you. If he's in your way when you're walking somewhere, walk directly toward him with confidence and he will run away.

Repeat the holding upside down frequently (like, daily) until he runs at the sight of you. He needs to be taken down a notch in the pecking order.

DH fixed our little roo terror..he was a bit confused though..I TOLD him to pick him up by his legs...but he picked him up by his head instead with his thumb on his throat and fingers around the back of his neck...didn't hurt him, and it made him docile, but......DAAAAAAANG! Well it worked anyway

He's five weeks old. He's testing boundaries and can probably be broken of biting. I have had aggressive chicks, but that is not the norm, even with cockerels at that young age.

He's just made the decision easy for me as I have too many roos to begin with, I get attached and can't give them away...

But if a bird ticks me off like that, it is GONE.

If he was my only roo I'd work on him to make him a well-adjusted member of the family, but I already have plenty of super sweet roos and don't need the aggravation

I hope he'll make someone a fine pet... or a nice soup!

I hear RIR roos can be pretty aggressive. That'll make you wanna....

Well, techno has a good point, though. There are so many easygoing, sweet-tempered roosters, no need to waste time on the ones who make you nuts.
