Attacked by broody ...

Some of my screaming meemees. And they aren't even on eggs. They just want to be.

I would understand if the hen was on a nest. Actually ... I understand anyway. Just their instincts, and I'm kinda glad to see it in case I ever want to let them brood eggs or raise babies for me.

Thing is, there ARE no eggs. Just a hen who returns to the spot where there WERE eggs and sits tight, day after day, and has to be dragged into the coop at night. Hens ... actually ... I currently have 3 acting this way. And 2 more broody IN the coop. Sigh ... why don't they do this when I want chicks, LOL.

She's better now. She still gives me a hard time, but now I use a long wooden pole with a little crook at the end and just nudge her until she gets made enough to come out, then she ruffles her way slowly back to the coop and I escort her. To begin again the next day.

All my chickens are kinda upset right now, I think. I was getting almost 2 dozen eggs a day, and didn't have enough customers to keep up. I "processed" 400 eggs a couple of weeks ago ... just bagged them up in batches of 10 shelled raw eggs and froze them, to be used for animal food in the future. NOW I have people asking me every day .... sometimes more than 1 new customer a day .... requesting eggs, and today I had less than 1 dozen to sell.

I wish this silly broody stuff would end, LOL.

LOL, I did have to laugh when I looked into the faces of the screaming meemees. They look like they mean business!

What are we gonna do with these silly chickens?

If I had all the money in the world, I'd just get them some eggs to sit on and then build more coops when the babies needed more space. And hope that NEXT year people still want to buy eggs, LOL.

Wishing this broody-ness would end ...
