So I woke up to find my drake outside mostly missing his tail and looking scruffy, with the slightest limp.

Our main predators here are raccoons, possums, and cats, but the ducks have never been attacked before. I keep them uncooped and Firefly (the attacked drake) was literally the last one (and late at that) to regrow his wings. Guess hes staying in a coop until he can fly now. Before then, I've never had an attack.

His injuries aren't major; I didnt find any hotness, swelling, or broken bones on his foot. Looks like he just minorly sprained it, the limp is subtle.
His wing looks like it was pulled at or something, since its drooping a little bit.

He also has one puncture wound that doesn't look deep or bloody on his neck; I couldn't get pictures of that since he was squirming too much. The feathers totally cover it and I nearly looked past it until I saw dirt there.

He has one wound on his wing, one on his back, and possibly the worst is his tail. I couldn't get good pics of the tail, sorry. There looks to be a few scabs (you can sorta see) of dried blood, and it smells like the minor wounds I've gotten on ducks before when turtles have bit them. So not exactly a bad smell....

As for the drake, hes acting fine since I found him. Squirmed a great deal when getting pictures, was interested in food and water. Moves around, no lethargy.

Can I please get some advice on what to do for his wounds? Should I just put neosporin on them like I have before (on turtle bites that look similar to this)? Should I clean them out, if so, with what?

Also, would anyone like to take a guess on what could have attacked him?

Bad picture of his tail-- it's kinda around his oil gland where there's a little dried blood

It was hard to get a pic sorry

I don't know where you live but where I live we have all those predators and more like foxes, coyotes peregrine falcons, & hawks too! I got real tired of things killing my ducks (I've lost 2). My ducks get locked into a very secure pen every single night at dusk and have 200' of 4' fence around 2 runs next to each other and netting over the top. The 2 runs can be separated if I want for any reason which makes putting the net over the top much easier. Although it was still a bear to do on my own.

Anyway, that's what I did to prevent further tragedy!

I live in Florida; I forgot to mention hawks as well, but I think it happened during the night, because he was fine yesterday. I don't know though. I do know I didn't see him last evening, but anything could have happened I guess.

Thank you!
Well, you can rule out snake at least. That's what got one of mine and all the fencing and netting in the world won't prevent that! Whatever it was it will probably be back! Can you lock them up at least at night?

Yes, I can lock them up. I don't think we have the resources to lock ALL my ducks up, but I know that they can at least fly and roost somewhere. I think they usually do. It's more the one that can't get away, this drake that got attacked, that I'll start putting in a coop until he can fly again.
I've got only runners and they can't fly so I have to be extra cautious!

I am so glad my duck lives indoors. Scary stuff! Definetly get all wounds cleaned out. Warm water bath to remove any contaminants on the skins. Put a topical antibiotic cream on the wounds. Blu Kote is a popular one. You could even try putting some honey on the wounds!

I bet! Mine are Muscovies, so they love to fly.

Thank you! I'll have to look that up.

Hi - I am in Florida as well...My experience is that once the predators find them, it is constant - rats, possums and that dang hawk that keeps circling -- good luck
glad she is OK!
Thanks! Oh, I get it. Once had a hawk that found my few week old babies...Lost three before I moved them to our backyard where there are lots of hidey places.

You can wash out the injuries with warm salt water and put on a spray on antiseptic.
Keep him confined till he heals.
Best wishes.
I am, and thank you. Would you have a suggestion on which brand of spray on antiseptic works best? It would be a lot easier than having to put on a cream.
