Ive read your Big Ol Ventilation page atleast 10 times and still have some questions. I have a 10x16 shed and I partitioned a wall off half way back for my coop. So the actual coop is 8x10 but since there is more hot air I included the entire building dimensions. So far i've installed a 2'x4' old RV hand crank louvered window on the rear of the coop (about four feet off the floor to the bottom of the window). And 12"x12" louvered vents on each end at the top of the building.


I was wondering once I install one of the wind turbines on the roof (the one powered by air) how much more do I need? The front of the shed is limited due to my large double doors. I can't put anything on the sides because those walls are so low it would be a draft and not good ventilation. Does that sound sufficient enough?

If anyone else has a suggestion please let me know. Thanks ahead.

I dunno, I would have serious doubts whether that'll keep things cool enough, but of course it depends on how hot the coop site gets (affected by shade, what's around it, breeze exposure, etc). If there is ANY way to have larger open areas to one or more walls of the coop, it'd be really really helpful. You could bolt a panel on for wintertime.

Those "wind turbine" whirly fan things for the roof are not especially helpful in most coops, though. If you haven't installed it yet, you might consider skipping it. The thing is, they don't do much unless there is wind -- and if there IS wind, then you really get more benefit from just having large openings in the sides of the bldg than you do from that leetle turbine. They are useful for HUGE buildings, yes, where wall openings are too limited in relation to the building's volume; and useful for spaces where it is impossible to HAVE large openings in the sides, like attics; but coops are small and can easily have large mesh areas in one or more wall. That is much, much more efficient... and will help even when the wind is not blowing
