Auburn Java Chickens

Hello all! We have been trying to bring in more Auburn Javas into the world. Since the incubated eggs do not tend to yield a hen who wants to sit on eggs (tried this for a few years and they kept laying the egg then leaving for foraging.) So, Silkies have been sitting and hatching the Java eggs. As a result, those hens are now broody. BAD News though, as of two days ago, something attacked and killed the rooster while they were out foraging at the end of the day. So, now, with disoriented, grieving hens, and a breeding program stalled, I am looking for a replacement bonafide Auburn Java rooster. Any leads?

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I think you should post on the Java thread and ask the members there if they have a list of breeders of these Java that may be able to help you.

I usually cruise the Buy,sell, trade forum on BYC but, I have never seen Auburn javas offered. I didn't even know they come in that color. The Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago, has a continuously running exhibit of hatching chicks. They are all Javas and they go back to the farmer to grow out and are replaced by more eggs. It's my "must see first," exhibit when ever we go there. I haven't seen any auburns tho. Wish you luck finding them.

http://www.behlfarm.com/blogengine.net/page/Auburn-Java-Chickens.aspx Think a lot of the auburns from Chicago went to the Behl farm, not sure what they are doing so far as breeding them or offering eggs/chicks, but the website has been updated this year so you might try emailing them.

Hello,
I have been trying to bring back Auburns as well and just lost my rooster as well my friend Glenis Marsh at Java Hill Farms has a juvinile Black that carries the Auburn gene. If you contact Garfield Museaum they can also put you in contact with some breeders around the states that are developing this color again. Hope it helps! Good luck, I'm in California.
