This is how it was growing up as a kid for us as well. A friend needed help, we all went over there and helped. When our garage burned down, everyone we spend a weekend a year helping out all turned up and we had us a garage raising party built literally from the ground up in one weekend. Started saturday morning and finished sunday by noon.

My foster sons are being taught to help out our neighbors. They actually enjoy it. I think it makes them feel good to be helpful. They'll see our neighbor get a load of firewood and ASK me if they can go help him stack it...or when it snows they go help everyone on the road shovel out.(and they have a GOOD time!!).. just all kinds of things...
I guess we're lucky, we have great neighbors...if we ever need help with anything, they dont hesitate. And we do the same for them...
Its how we were raised...
its a shame how some people look at things..they have to get paid for every little thing... how greedy..IMO
whatever happend to just helping someone out?? Its not the kid didnt get paid either...
The kid was a rude, disrespectful punk... no WAY he should have EVER spoken to his friends parents like that.... I would have flipped out on the little creep.
Its pretty scary how entitled some kids feel today... sad.
