Yes, Kandi, it is a cutting board. It's hard maple from the northeast and aged cherry my family cut here in Missouri years ago. I love making those as its a great little project that gives me a break from building bigger furniture lol. I do recommend treating it with some type of cutting board oil/wax every few months. I treated it before i sent it, so it should be good for a while as is.

We were wondering ,stained pine, mohagany ... Maple and cherry... Very nice! The perfect gift for me as wood craft is admired by everyone here . Dh is a general contractor and you probably know 90% of his conversations is about wood! Lol

That's awesome. I build furniture so I'm sure him and I have a lot of the same conversations with the wives!

My husband and I restore antique wooden boats. We love good wood. I never really appreciated grain like I do now that I've been working with him. Do you sell your cutting boards- that sounds like a really good X-mas gift for a wood-a-holic.

Yes I do. I need to make a few up from different kinds of wood and put them in the BST forum. If there's something specific your looking for just PM me and I'll see what I can do. I have wood imported from all over the world so the possibilities are endless. I actually prefer to build the small stuff like cutting boards, pen holders, military coin holders etc over the big tedious stuff.

Well, we already have a cutting board made of Angelique and one made of Olive. I really like the olive, but I would definitely want something made of sustainable wood. We use so much epay and Kaya and Sapele and we also use cypress. I have a degree in environmental biology and it all bothers me so much. What have you got that would be local to you and sustainable?

I'd say walnut or cherry would be the be option. I don't know if they count to you as sustainable because of the slow growth rate, but they are indigenous to the area and lots of people replant them for future growth. I actually planted 20 certified black walnut trees this year and have only produced with maybe one trees worth of wood. I have pecan/hickory with is in a similar status. I have read that Missouri oak is declining, but I honestly don't track it much as I don't build a lot with it. I do have access to sustainable farm raised teak from South America as well. It's not local, but sustainable. The best part about this type of teak is the price. It's about 1/3 of the retail price of Burmese teak. The drawback is you are limited to boards 6' and under as the trees don't get nearly the size of the Burmese originals.
