They are moving!! Day 18!

I see some of the silkie eggs moving about. I read somewhere on this forum that silkies may hatch early? None of the LF eggs are moving (and they candled fine this morning) so I am wondering if my silkies are thinking about arriving early. They've been in a brinsea at a rock solid temperature (99.6) so high temp is not the issue. Do the eggs normally rock around this early?

Update: Day 18.5 - I have a PIP. EEP. I locked down just in time! No cheeping, but there's definitely a pip in a silkie egg.

*flail* I don't think I will make it till this weekend.... I want these eggs to hatch NOW! Or at least before I have to go across the state again >.>

@ Featherz: A lot of bantam breeds will hatch before day 21 (including silkies, as if I recall correctly, all silkies are technically bantams). I'm guessing it has to do with the smaller egg incubating faster. Good luck!

Ok...so far 6 little D'Uccles have hatched out. The hens, this is their second time setting this year....the first time was a Great hatch rate, this time the snake got some of the eggs..they just started on their own and I let them go for it....I also have some eggs incubating and should hatch next week....wish me luck.

So the fun begins. Official hatch day is Friday but.... Today I went to check on my broody and she got ticked. I knew something was wrong so I tried not to get bloody and moved her aside. Sure enough broken chick egg. Little guy had its feet sticking out and mama was eating the egg shell. The little guys blood vessels were still going strong. Brought it up to the running incubator. So far so good. YAY

So far so good. I did get it out of the shell and tied off his cord with fishing wire and that worked great. So far he/she is doing well and trying to get out of its paper towel egg. YAY

If he is up and moving around tomorrow I will put him back under mama at night.

Wow, August has been busy and what a cool opening post there. Thanks for all the cool links too.

I have 5 blue Araucana eggs in lockdown, expected to hatch the 20th but I'm already hearing peeping from one so I may have a little early bird there. I can't wait. I've been wanting more Araucana's so badly and they're so hard to come by. I bought some hatching eggs and have more coming in September. They can be a real challenge to hatch, I put these under a broody maran hen for the first 10 days and then into the incubator. I would have let her hatch them but there is so much that can happen to them in the coop, 2 were broken the second day when other hens wanted in the nest to lay or set too. I wouldn't have even put them out there but a broody hen is so much better at getting the eggs going just right. No one is broody right now so my next batch of eggs may have to go straight into the bator.
