Auntee Bee under the bridge in Michigan =D

I bred, raised and showed Cocker Spaniels for several years. They never smelled badly but, then they were bathed every week to keep their big coats in show condition. If you use the proper shampoo it doesn't dry out skin or coat.

If dogs are subject to getting rained on or swimming in ponds I would imagine they would have some odor. Generally smooth haired breeds have more of a body odor, because they don't have long coats(hair) to buffer it.

I was a dog groomer for many years and the dogs that came in routinely didn't smell.
Some came in only once a year and matted up to the eye balls. You could smell them as soon as they came in the door. They also tended to harbor fleas, etc, and one even plastic Xmas trees. Or I'd find a child put a rubber band around the dogs neck and it was cutting into their skin. When I showed the owner - she gave the kid a good, hard smack.

If she had brushed her dog between groomings, she would have found it herself.:smack
