Hi all,

Since about April I had two chickens (RR and NHR) go broody. They sat on their eggs but would usually abandon them at some point, resetting the incubation process.

But last week the NHR finally hatched a chick and has since taken up her duties as momma. However, what is perplexing me is that the other broody hen is no longer broody. She is off her nest and now seems to have become an auntie to the new chick. At first I was fearful that she was going to try to either take the chick from its momma or try to kill it, but so far she seems content with just being another role model for the young chick.

Is this behavior normal? Or is it an indication of something else? I'm not complaining by her behavior, I think it's actually very charming.

Thanks.
