Austin, Texas restrictive covenant enforcement

I just received a letter from PBF covenant Management. They told me that I have to remove all my chickens and ducks from my back yard.(I have 2 ducks, 5 hens) I checked with city of austin before I purchased my chickens and they said I could have 6 hens?? is there anyone live in Austin Texas MUD#1 that know anything about this? Help!!

In general, I think I would check your property deed to see if it contains any covenants or restrictions.

The Austin area is usually chicken-friendly. Go to the this website: http://fccooptour.blogspot.com/ and scroll down to the very bottom to see the COA Livestock Ordinance. You might also find other helpful links and information on that site.

Thanks tx mom. I think I am fighting a losing battle. According to the letter, I'll have to give away all my animals. We are really sad. I already called one of my friend to give her my two beautiful peking ducks. I couldn't sleep at all last night sooooo sad....

Here in Austin the city rules can be made more restrictive by Home Owner's Association (HOA) rules. Which sounds like what you are stuck with.

The city rules say yes to hens kept in an enclosure at least 50' from a neighbor's house. But if you live within an HOA, then their rules can dictate no hens at all. Then their rules apply to your property.

Read through all of the covenants and rules closely, just to make sure. But it sounds like you have already started getting rid of your birds.
