Austra Whites?

I just purchased one today. I hope it is not a roo! What do you mean that they cannot be sex-linked?

because I think but dont quote me the males can be the same color as females white with black in their feathers there isnt a lot of pictures of them to look at unless im looking at the wrong site lol... I guess the only thing to do is ask a hatchery...

A sexlink chick is one that can ALWAYS be sexed by its color when it is born. the pullet will always be a certain color and the rooster will ALWAYS be a certain color. 100% guaranteed !!! Austra whites ARE NOT sexlinked !!! a pullet and a rooster CAN be the same color!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thougth I was buying two pullets, But one turned out to be a rooster

I used to have Austra whites in the sixties when I was in high school
I hatched a bunch of their eggs for a school science project
I got some some of the hybrid body type
some of the hybrid color (white with a few black flecks)
but some were leghorn type some orpington, some white, some black and some blue
I had a blue hen that favored the australorp parent
and really pretty blue rooster that was leghorn type

Mine is very flighty and nervous. (Same with my Black New Jersey.) The others allow you to hold them with little hassle, but the Austra does not. Hopefully she will be a good egg layer.

Getting back to the original question: the Austra whites I had way back when were more active
than the Rocks, more excitable, laid more eggs, good dual purpose birds,
some were broody (in their 2nd year) but rejected the chicks when they hatched.

I have an austra white. He is Free ranged, flys everywhere, doesnt eat very much for the size. Probably just mine but his temper is too sketchy around strangers. He let's me pick him up just fine but anyone else. ... best to just stay on the other side of the fence. Me personally I would not get another after this one. I'll stick with the speckled Sussex
