Australorp and Wyandottes - advise please

I've had 4 silver laced Wyandottes for 3 years. Never broody, and good egg production. They come when called but aren't affectionate

I used to have a white leghorn who jumped on my shoulder and rode around the yard, sat on my lap to snooze.
Weasel got her - I really miss ol Betsy Cluck.

I just want to mention that when they refer to "quiet" breeds, I think that they mean quiet temperment. Australorps are wonderful, I have two. I don't personally have an Australorp rooster, but I know someone who had one that lived for fifteen years and he was very smart and gentle and very much loved.

About the crowing, I think that is more dependent on individual personalities and not breed. It's just the luck of the draw! I have heard that rooster crow less when they are the only roo. More than one can cause a crowing "conversation".

I don't have a rooster, but I do have some experience with Wyandottes. They have never gone broody but I did re-home 3 of them last year as they are much more agressive than my other breeks. I have one BA, an old girl whom I adore.

My friend just lost her beloved BA rooster who was gentle, (with people and his hens) protective, and gorgeous.
