Australorp Egg Laying

We have one Australorp that lays almost every day, very consistent, and one that just pops one out randomly once in awhile. She was actually the first to lay, in September, but just super sporadic. They are almost eight months old now. She's healthy and happy, top of the pecking order and a good boss. I'm hoping she'll get more consistent in spring once the days get longer, but I told her she's a good bird and we'll keep her either way 😉
yep - we like our BA (Arnold) so will be a keeper - just not an egg layer :)

An update on Arnold - she has now gone over a month with no eggs - its summer here in Sydney.

We received some more advice - saying that Arnold is over weight - she had access to grain and layer pellets all day and plenty of water. We cut out teh kitchen scraps but that has made no difference. So based on our friends advice we are putting her on a diet - we have 3 chickens so now giving them 300g of pellets in teh morning and another 100g late afternoon.

Thoughts?? Can a chook be over weight and too contented to lay an egg?

Thanks
Jeff

Where does she land on this scale?
Are you sure she’s overweight?

The lady who runs our local chicken FB group says her chickens lay less when they are getting too many treats, maybe try just the layer feed (as much as they want) and just a little handful of "treats" here and there?

She is not over weight - 2kg and felt on the normal range.

she is only getting layer pellets and no treats and is now over 40 weeks and not an egg

are there such things as eggless chickens?
