Hi everyone! just a quick question, my Black Australorp ladies have started laying, but their egg size is quite small is this normal? I have 4, 3 year old Easter Eggers and when they started laying their eggs were and are the normal size Medium. It takes 2 Australorp egg to equal my Easter Egger's 1. Just wondering. Thanks, Brenda

My australorp has been laying for not quite 2 weeks and her eggs are on the smaller side still. I'm assuming they'll get a little bigger. My golden comet's eggs got bigger as she went along. On the other hand, my cuckoo marans started right out with XL eggs that barely fit in the carton.

Young Pullet egg on the left, 3 year old on the right.

This is my first year having eggs from both pullets and hens for comparison, and the pullet eggs started out adorably small! All mixed flock, so no direct comparisons, but they’re a few months into laying and thete’s still a noticeable difference in egg size between hens and pullets. It might be fun for you to document the change in size over time with a camera (wish I had thought of that before).
