In the Brooder
I brough home 2 australorps about a week ago, one is seperated with 7 chicks and the other is with an australorp rooster and a sussex x SLW Rooster, the cross breed roo has been mating with her.
she layed an egg the first night here, but she layed while on a perch so the egg dropped down and cracked, since then she hasn't layed another egg, shes either 1 or 2 years old also.
The first night she was in a dog kennel/pen I made with concrete flooring, that where she layed her egg, but I decided to turn an old soccer goal into a coop for her and the two roos shes with so they can be on the grass and tracter around the lawns, I had one side and half of another side covere to keep them dry and had their food, water and nesting boxes in that side, a few days later after no eggs I saw my cross breed roosters feathers on the ground outside of the cage and knew the feral cat had been lurking and trying to get my chooks once again (killed and ate my last 6 hens) so I thought maybe thats why shes not laying, because there is a predator around, so i closed i the end with the two covere sides so there is one fully open side and ne fully closed side, still didnt lay an egg.
I decided to switch my other australorp roos in the soccer goal cage and put the hen and the two roos in the dog kennel/pen cage because she had layed an eg in there before, this morning there are still no eggs
I've been trying to find some more hens to keep her company but haven't been lucky, I put the hen with her chicks cage into the dog kennel/pen so she can see another hen but can't touch her and her chicks.
Any reason shes not laying? im in South Australia so it currently winter and quite cold so I thought that was a reason she wasn't laying, but I read Australorps lay all year round, is this correct?
Thanks in advance for anyone who replys
