Hey y’all, I’m thinking of which one is better to keep. I thought I could use your guys votes. I’m going for which ones you guys have had and been more impressed with, I like them both and to me they seem to be very similar in a way.

I've owned just one of each, but I think Plymouth Rocks are pretty awesome. Love Autralorps, too, but my BPR is just an all around awesome bird: hardy, smart, reliable, friendly.

That said, you really can't go wrong with either. Maybe get both?!
Hehe I have both... but I have a friend who only wants one of the two and I just can’t choose! So that’s why I posted this 🤣🤣

I've had a BPR in the past and loved her to death (Gertrude) and now I have a Heritage BPR (Buddy) who was super sweet and cuddly as a chick, but at 27-28 weeks old is a bit standoffish and LOVES to bite at me! I still love her, but she's definitely not my favorite in my flock. I don't have any experience with Australorps though, so I have no opinion of them.

I LOVE my Blue Australorps. I've never had a Rock, but I can't think of anything bad to say about an Australorp.

The shape of these birds is what I think of when I think of "chicken" and I like their active but calm personalities.

I know that Rock lovers think the same about their birds so maybe your friend should just either flip a coin or buy what's on sale. I'm sure it's impossible to go wrong choosing between those breeds.

I have 2 australorps and one barred and honestly my australorps are around me more than my BPR. Not that they BPR isn't friendly just my Aus enjoy coming around and chatting a lot more than my BPR. All my birds are friendly overall but if it's who is more sociable towards me my aus are more social. One is more friendly of the 2 aus but I think that goes with any breed so not knowing what you're asking or looking for in the pole doesn't help me vote because both breeds have merit. I have the black australorps and love their shine in the sunlight seeing that multi color sheen is nice but still wouldn't necessarily say it makes it better than my BPR. Each person has their own preferences in their birds. You could get both breeds and do mixed flock if you like them both. temperament wise I have no complaints on any of my mixed flock. Get what makes you happy!

If you can score some heritage barred rocks, or personally I prefer heritage bantam barred rocks you wont be disappointed. They look stunning, the LF heritage birds will eat alot of feed though! If you go with hatchery quality barred rocks they lay great and dont eat near as much feed! Ive seen show quality and hatchery quality australorps and Ive never cared much for em, if Im gettin a solid black bird its gunna be an ameraucana lol. Cheers
