Australorp Rooster?

Oh! I thought they were younger, and in the one pic, the angle, her saddle feathers looked male. So you have two pullets and a cockerel. The one is thinking about getting ready to lay.

Thanks so much! The breeder is willing to swap the rooster for a hen so that’s good news. Glad it’s only the one rooster I have.

Which one do you think is ready to lay, and how do you tell?

They’re in a pen with 3 isa browns so it’s hard to know which chooks exactly are the layers.

The one with the larger, red comb (not the cockerel) as compared to her sister with the small dark comb. To find out more specifically how close a pullet is to laying, you can pick them up like a football, head facing backwards. Feel above the cloaca for two points. This is the pelvis. Close together, like a finger width, indicates that they're not ready yet. When they're ready, the width between those two points will widen to about 3 finger widths (depending on the size of your fingers)

In the last picture the bird on the left is a pullet. The bird in the center is a definite cockerel. The bird on the right I also believe is a cockerel. He appears under-developed because the male in the center is more dominant. I'd think that removing him would cause the less-developed cockerel to "blossom" into something more like his brother.

They do make beautiful roosters. Shame you can't keep him/them.

They were born 30/07/19.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like one rooster is definitely confirmed.
Here’s a pic showing the my other two in question... any confident ideas on their gender too?

I knew I ordered a rooster but didn't know which it was. The research I did said if you get them all as chicks the rooster will be first with a comb. It was accurate for me.
