Australorp Temperament Toward Humans?

Yup, I really only have one "snuggly" chook Helen. And I really think she's just a con artist who thinks that the snuggly stuff may be an in road to extra treats.

A couple of my suck-ups are my best snugglers, but they still come see me even when there aren't any treats to be had.

I have multiple cuddlers (including a RIR, 2 silkies, and working on a third, a silver phoenix, and even two of my silver spangled hamburgs tolerate being held pretty well)

I agree with 21hens-incharge. Friendly was probably not the right word when someone described australorp temperament to the masses. Docile, I think would have been a better term?
I have 6 Australorp hens. They stand on my feet when they want something and are in the way the rest of the time. I can reach down and scoop one up when I need to for inspection or medication.
But as for sitting on your lap and wanting to be cuddled. Not so much. They prefer to sit next to you.
My buff Orpingtons are cuddlers.

I love them, but they are not a lap bird. I find them to be brave, always alert, and great at foraging. They are not mean to other hens/ birds and I never had an issue with an Australorp Rooster. It depends though too.. Every bird is not a guaranteed stamp. They have personalities too. I have 3 Leghorns for example that are supposed to be super scared and flighty, but they are actually my most friendly birds. They follow me everywhere, I have tripped on them, stepped on their toes (mind you they are always on mine too lol), but you get the point. They are not afraid of me, dogs, my horse, new people, nothing.. yet when you research them they are supposed to be a nervous breed.

I honestly love my White Leghorns. I would have gotten more, but I expected the research to be correct and I didn't want too many "nervous" and "Flighty" birds around lol. My mistake..

Mine were not lap birds you could touch them as they walked by but that was it. They were high in the pecking order and very broody, when I would break one in the broody cage and then let her out the other chickens would try to bully her big mistake she would tear back into them, it never took long for her to regain her place in the pecking order.

I had a BO as a kid that was such a menace my folks thought she was a rooster and gave her away to the feed store clerk who said his roosters would put her in her place. She proceeded to kick the ass of every rooster on the guys farm and got her head chopped off for her trouble.

My girl Ruby is solidly in the upper ranks of our flock, but is way calmer than the others in that she takes no sh*t and gives no sh*t lol. She delivers a putdown when needed, but doesn't hold a grudge. My brahma on the other hand... will wait until her attacker forgets and she will get her revenge lol.

My Australorps, which I only had for a little over a year, did not like to be held or touched. They were not skittish, but just did not like physical contact.
