I will add 2 more chicks to my micro-micro-flock of 2 this spring. I currently have an Easter Egger and a Buff Orpington, which are both friendly, quiet, and generally easy-going, but don't really get along with each other. They are often found on opposite sides of the yard! I got them both as chicks from MPC last summer.

They will have the run of the yard, which is fenced, but not overly large (20'x50', about), with a lot of shrubs, a small pond, and a deck they love to take naps under. I want a Speckled Sussex for sure, but am on the fence about the second. I can't decide between an Australorp and a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. I love the color of the Wyandotte, but worry she may be aggressive. I will order again from MPC.

Any thoughts? Stories of the good bad, and/or ugly relating to hatchery-quality Australorps or Wyandottes? Help me make a decision, please!

I would go with Australorp just cause they are extremely friendly and very good about being handled. Wyandottes are known for being Beautiful but can have a mean streak.(mine used to bully the ducks but is now their best chicken friend) May I point out australorps have iridescent feathers (very purdy)? I will post a pic of my Penny below

I vote Wyandotte just cause their my favorite. I've had very nice & well-mannered gals. However they are not daily layers. Not sure if Australorps as a breed are better layers? Had 1 once that laid about 3/wk. She was mean but I think that is not the norm for the breed.
