As @Ridgerunner mentioned earlier, a barred hen cannot produce a solid son as she has only one locus for the barring gene and therefore passes that gene, be it barred or non-barred, onto her son without exception. It is in this manner that black sex linkage works, as she is unable to pass the gene to her daughters.
