Australorps Breeding for SOP and Exhibition Thread

Pics
This is our flock sire. His name is Big Papa, and he is a Black Australorp.

I've posted a few pictures to get opinions based regarding how closely aligned or misaligned he is with the SOP.

I feel like he's a pretty healthy specimen, but, as his mama, I'm biased. ;)

Thanks!

I really like your birds. I often have trouble figuring out the number of points on the comb but they look like good combs. The curves are very nice and I like the green sheen on the feathers. The legs and face have great color too.

Do you show them? Forgive me if you have already told us where they came from. Where did you get them?

Thanks for posting pictures of your birds.

How many points do you count on the combs?

I have been looking at these picture and I really like these Australorps.

Do you show them?

Did you tell us where you got them yet?

Big Papa has six points on his comb. Little Mister has more... His are smaller and "packed" more tightly. Here's a picture of him. I count seven points.

I do not show them... Yet. As we discussed before, I do not have an NPIP, nor do I agree with govt regulation, but I do understand the need for disease control. I'd be mad if all my birds died, so to avoid the problem all together, I am undecided whether to show. :)

I got them from a breeder to got her line from a man named Jerry Riley. I am also wanting some hatching eggs from Dan Castle when it's time to add a new rooster to the genetic pool.

Thank you for the input!

Thank you for the reminder. I remember the NPIP and showing requirements in Texas. Too bad the shows in California are so far from you.

Off to make some notes...

Well, if you're willing to buy packing material and a box for me, I'll include some free, uninsured hatching eggs from our Big Papa and Big Mama breeding. ;)

My Hupp Australorp has molted out nicely.

She is not red enough in the face. What else is wrong with her?
