Hi all! I was wondering if anyone knew anything about Austrolorps. I am hoping to get some chicks this summer and am not sure what to get. Are Austrolorps any good? Any other recommendations?

Oh, you will LOVE Australorps! The are all I keep! They are very docile, kid friendly, affectionate, they are great layers and are very hardy as well. Mine follow me around like drooling puppies looking for goodies or a soft lap to sit on. HUGE lap babies. I can't go sit anywhere without them begging to sit with me and will fight for the best spot closest to me. LOL You can't go wrong with Australorps!!

But you can check out our breeds page to see what others are saying about the different breeds...

Buff Orpingtons and Barred Rocks are also a great bird to keep as well. The Buff Orps and Black Australorps are both Orps. Buff Orpingtons have a very similar quality and laying abilities as the Australorps.

Spend lots of time with them as babies. Get them out of the brooder and enjoy them. After 6 weeks of hanging out with you on the living room floor, by the time you get them out into the coop, they will stalk you for attention.
