Auto Bailout.......

Up until 2005 I had bought and driven Big 3 vehicles. I bought my wife a 2003 Chevy Venture in 03 and decided to turn it in on a new vehicle in 05. The vehicle was in pristine condition with five thousand miles on it. Thats right, 5K! Tried to trade it in for a new Chevy in 05 and after getting their "best deal" went to a Mazda dealer. Mazda gave us 2 thousand dollars more than Chevy had offered. So much for loyalty! Still have the 05 Mazda and it just turned 10K miles. Also traded in an 03 Silverado in 06 for an 06 Nissan Texas Titan. The Titan (I have owned new Ram and Silverado) is the best truck I have ever owned, Dealer is great and it was made in Canton, Mississippi by non-union workers. I havent seen Nissan USA asking the Feds for ANYTHING! Sink or swim I say!

Yes, mam. with benefits, healthcare costs and pension plans these guys are making this. The hourly wage may be 30 bucks and hour for your DH take home, BUT with health care, pension and other benefits the line workers are taking over 70 dollars an hours to sustain their interest in the auto industry. The other auto makers are making half this WITH benifits. This was negotiated by the unions that represent these particular workers at GM, FORD and CHYSLER. Filling for a chapter 11 bankruptcy may be the only option. This is why there are bankruptcy courts in this country. If a corparation is unviable, then they need to sustian a lower presence and work force and the work force needs to do the same. Oh, if is were in this postion YOU BET I would push the Loan and bailout. But, most Americans are just not that lucky.

.

Do ya all know what minimum wage is in this country?

That's funny.... my Uncle's wife has to pay $150 a month to PRE-pay for the delivery of her baby or she can't get prenatal care from the doctor. They don't qualify for Medicaid or the Health Clinic....... you would think prenatal care would be a given.

Hi, Im new here and i am amazed at the diversant veiws. All i can say is if it were not for unions I would not have my job. I live in a right to work state...................But , Im required to belong to the union . Back in the ice age when i first got my drivers lisc. you could by a new ford pickup for 6,000and change. Now you can by a house or a new car etc. Its about the same price. I would like to know why we should bail out a company that should have seen this coming. When Japan and others first started selling here they were disposible(sp) cars They saw what the Americans wanted the changed their product. I drive an 01 dodge pu(not often these days) Because I have to ,to haul things etc. Primarily now I have a 15 year old beater because it gets 25 plus mph. I think we do need to bail them out but with strict controls on how it done. They either have to go or match what the competitors have. The top brass is just as much if not more at fault, They get the production bonuses for the work of the line men.

yes, we should bail out the big 3

The jobs lost will put even more burden on the already OVERBURDENED
economy. The jobless rate will sky rocket. And as anyone knows that has ever applied for and received unemployment .. that is the biggest load of bs out there. You cant just think of the Big 3. You also have to consider ALL the suppliers that will then loose money. And cut jobs.

It is not entirely the fault of the Big 3 that they are in this position now.
How many people out there went and bought huge honkin trucks and SUVs when they dont need them? Then the oil went crazy and with it the gas price. And most know that it is the OIL that drives this countries economy.

People have to look beyond their own door ways and see the BIG picture. But then again short sightedness is the norm for most Americans.

When gas started going up, my DH and I really began to notice all of the hugely wasteful over-sized vehicles on the road.

5 years ago he predicted exactly what is happening with car-makers now.

My hubby is working fr a company who makes parts for the big 3...

he just got notice yesterday that his work week will now be cut down to 4 days a week

we have no bills, we have no credit, but we are living paycheque to paycheque.

we both work within minutes of work so we are not traveling far to work but we need 2 vehicles cause of shift work

we pay $1200 a month in rent plus heat and hydro...we have 3 kids who are not spoiled lil brats they know the meaning of the word no

if something does not happen SOON we will loose everything!!! we have about 3 monts worth of savings..

so its not always people living beyond their means that are going to be in ruins because of this..
